Before we jump on to various SEO tips and tricks let’s see what basically SEO means. So we will start with the basic definition.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization by which you can increase your blog or website traffic. SEO is divided into two factors:

  • On-Page SEO
  • Off-Page SEO

In this article, we are going to cover all these topics one by one so that you can understand each section easily

What is On-Page SEO

On-page SEO is the practice where you optimize the individual post or page in your blog or website to make it more SEO friendly and thus increase the chances of getting ranked higher in the search result pages.

It includes basically what we do inside our articles to make it more SEO friendly including the HTML source code of the page.

Most bloggers and Webmasters focus more on on-page optimization as it is very easy if you know how to do it correctly especially for beginners and new bloggers.

Since you are a beginner I am going to share with you what all the most important on-page SEO factors you must focus on to get a higher ranking in google and other search engines.

How To Do A Perfect On-Page SEO?

1. Use Heading Tags

In WordPress, you have H1 to H6 heading tags and you must use them correctly in your article. For the main title of the blog post, you must use the H1 tag which is the default setting and you don’t have to manually set it to H1.

Apart from that, you must properly use H2 to H6 headings in your articles. I personally use only H2 to H4 tags in my articles including the H1 tag which is set by default for the title tag of our articles.

Generally speaking, heading tags are meant to properly format your content so that it looks more organized to the readers and they can quickly find the important heading in your articles.

Don’t use more than one H1 tag in your complete article. Any given article must have one and only one H1 tag.

2. Use Short Paragraphs

When you write an article always make sure that you use short paragraphs so that it makes it easier for your readers to read.

I have seen many beginner bloggers that make the mistake of writing very long paragraphs.

You are one paragraph may contain one or two sentences not more than that. If you can see that in this article I am using very short paragraphs.

This way it makes it very easy for any reader to read your article and understand it properly.

3. Check grammar and spelling mistakes

Guys, when you write an article you have to make sure that all your grammar and spellings are correct.

If your article is full of grammar and spelling mistakes then it will not look professional.

Also, Google doesn’t like articles that have too many grammar, punctuation, or spelling mistakes.

This might not seem big for you, but if you are in a highly competitive niche then all these small factors matter a lot.

If English is not your native language then you can use the Grammarly tool. Believe me that this is the best grammar and spelling checking tool available right now on the internet.

With Grammarly, you can check all your grammar and spelling mistakes while writing the article. They have free and Pro versions.

If you have just started blogging then you can go with the free plan and if you have the budget then you can use their pro plan also.

Believe me, guys, this tool will help you to correct so many grammars, spelling, and punctuation mistakes that you simply do it while writing an article.

4. Multimedia Rich

Make sure that you use images, infographics, and videos in your article so that it can make your article multimedia-rich.

Right now, many pro bloggers try to include all this multimedia in their articles so that Google loves it.

And also it helps your readers to understand your articles properly.

If you don’t have that much time to make multimedia-rich articles then you must include at least one image in the article and this is very important in terms of on-page SEO.

You can use the free canva tool to make very good images for articles. It is not that difficult to create a decent image for your article.

It has many features that will help you to create a very beautiful image for articles.

5. Use the alt tag

If you are using images in your article then make sure that you give a very descriptive alt attribute to all of your images.

Google and other search engines don’t recognize what the images are all about. They come to know this with the help of the alt attribute of your images.

Many beginners and new bloggers make the mistake of not giving proper alt-tag attributes to their images.

Another very big advantage of using an alt attribute for your images is that whenever people search for any image then google utilizes the alt tag to show them the results.

This will help you to get some traffic. But the main concern is making your blog post more SEO friendly and for this, you have to give proper alt tag attribute to all your images.

6. SEO-friendly permalink structure

You must make your articles permalink very SEO-friendly and the best way to do that is to use your main keyword in your URL and keep it within three to five words maximum.

You can also ignore using stop words in your URL to reduce the length of your article’s permalink.

SEO stop words are small words like it, the, A, An, in, on, etc. You can exclude them using in your article URL this will help you to reduce your URL length.

I have seen many newbie bloggers that try to stuff their URLs with as many keywords as they can but this is not the right approach.

Google also recommends that you must always use short and keyword-rich URL permalink structure articles but it must not be very long.

7.  Compress Your Images

Blog loading speed is another very important Google ranking factor and you must optimize all your images. Apart from using the alt tag for every image, the one thing which greatly impacts your page loading speed is the size of the images.

If you post images in your blog post without compressing them then most probably the size will be bigger. And if you have too many images in your blog post then this adds considerably large data to your overall page size.

You must compress all your uploaded images so that their size gets reduced and this will really help your blog post to load very quickly.

The best way to do that is to use image-compressing plugins. There are many free and paid plugins in WordPress but the one which I personally use is Imagify.

You must definitely try this plugin and this really does a very good job of compressing all your uploaded images automatically.

Also, you can bulk compress your previously uploaded images as well, just with a single click. This plugin is a must-have plugin to reduce the size of your images.

8. Use Keywords in Right Places

In order to make your blog post more SEO-friendly, you must use your keywords in the right places. The best places to use your focus keywords are as follows

  • Beginning of the title tag
  • H2 Tags
  • Sub Heading ( You can use H3 For this)
  • Image Alt Tag
  • Beginning of the paragraph
  • Few Times in the body of the content
  • In Your Last paragraph
  • If you use Tags in your WordPress blog then can use it there also
  • Use Keywords in the permalinks

These are the best places where you must use your keywords in order to make your article more SEO friendly.

9. Avoid Keyword Stuffing

Since I just told you that you must use your keywords in the right places does not mean that you must start doing keyword stuffing.

Well, this irritates readers as well as Google also just hates it. They don’t like pages that are heavily keyword stuffed.

Use your keywords where it makes sense and don’t overdo it. The best way to avoid keyword stuffing is you can use LSI and Synonyms.

This will definitely help you to avoid keyword stuffing and make your blog post still sound great to your readers. Also, it will help your article to rank for more related keywords in the search results.

10. Interlink Your Blog Posts

You must regularly interlink your blog post as this makes your readers find more related content and also helps in increasing your page views.

Apart from this, Google loves pages, that are interlinked properly with other pages on your sites. Make sure you link other articles in your blog with keyword-rich anchor texts.

But don’t overdo it as this might work against you. Never link a single post with the same anchor text again and again.

Try to use synonyms and long-tail keywords to interlink which relate to the topic of the linking article. This will definitely help your other posts to rank higher in the search results.

Some SEOs think that it does not work but if done properly like the way I said definitely works.

11. Link to other authority sites

Similar to Interlinking your own post you must regularly link out to other relevant sources on the internet. This tells Google that you are trying to help the reader to get more information about a particular topic.

Never link to shady or spammy sites always link out to high-authority sites. Many beginners make the mistake of not linking other sites.

They think that they will drive the user away from that site. Yes, that is true but linking out to at least 1 or 2 outbound links will definitely help you.

12.  Write long Detailed Articles

Right now Google gives more priority to those articles which are long and detailed article which give more in-depth information about the topic.

There were days when you can write an article of 500 words and rank higher in search results but now this no longer works.

The competition is more no matter in which niche you are, to rank higher in search results your blog post must be at least 1000 words long.

If you can write more then that is much better but don’t simply stretch the article just for the sake of making it big it must also make sense.

Long does not mean that you write anything you like your article must be highly researched and well written. This will definitely increase your chances to get a higher ranking in Google and other search engine results.

13. Use Numbered List or Bullet Points

In order to increase the user experience of your readers, you must use numbered and bulleted points to organize your content.

This will help your readers to easily understand your content. Use a numbered list for your subheading and bullet points to explain other small headings.

It feels very boring to read a long chunk of paragraphs without numbered or bulleted lists also it makes your article look unorganized.

So to make your blog post look beautiful you must mark your subheading or points with numbered or bullet points.

What is Off-Page SEO?

Off-Page SEO is simply what you do outside your blog to help increase your blog post rankings in the search results.

This consists of basically building high-quality do-follow backlinks to your blog or website and promoting your content.

The best way to build high-quality backlinks for your blog is to do a guest post. Why I am telling you to do a guest post because it still works if you do it in the right way.

Don’t just start doing guest blogging just for the sake of getting a do-follow backlink because this might backfire your SEO Strategy.

If you don’t have the time for guest blogging or to manually build high-quality backlinks then just focus on producing very high-quality content and this will automatically help you to gain more quality backlinks from other sites all over the internet.

Brian Dean of backlinko.com is the man who used this simple strategy to gain hundreds of high-quality do-follow backlinks for his blog which helped him to rank his articles for various competitive keywords in the digital marketing niche.

Other ways to do Off-Page SEO (Which I don’t Recommend)

  • Submitting your site to various Directory
  • Doing Social Bookmarking
  • Submit Articles in Article Submission sites
  • Infographic Submission
  • Image Submission
  • Create Profiles on Profiles creating Sites
  • Do Web2.0 backlinking
  • Use PBN (Private Blog Networks)

These are some of the other ways by which you can build backlinks to your blog or website but the links which you get from many of these sites simply don’t have that much value.

If you will do it in the wrong way then be ready to get penalized because Google hates links which are created to simply manipulate the search engine rankings.

Well, there are many bloggers who still do it but I would recommend you stick to the basics and go for guest blogging and publishing high-quality articles.

These are probably the best ways to build quality backlinks for your blog.
